How Do I Find Out What My Skin Type Is?

You have probably heard it a million times. In order to find the skin care products that will be exactly right for you, you have to know what your skin type is. Which probably leaves you asking the question, "How do I find out what my skin type is?"

There are three basic skin types, dry, oily, and normal/combination. If you use skincare products made for someone with a different skin type, chances are you won't get the full benefits of that product. In fact, using the wrong skincare products can sometimes do more harm than good.

So, exactly how can you find out your skin type?

A Few Methods

There are lots of ways to find out your skin type.

One easy way to do it is to ask a licensed skincare professional. They can examine your face, ask a couple of questions, and probably tell you your skin type in no time.

Another way to do it is by taking a skin analysis quiz, either online or in a print magazine. These quizzes take you through a series of multiple choice questions. You use the questions to evaluate your daily experiences with your skin. The way you answer the questions will more than likely give you a pretty good idea of what your skin type is.

Do You Have Oily Skin?

It might be possible to evaluate your own skin to determine its type.

If your skin is oily, you probably have problems with shininess, especially by the middle of the day. You might also have large, visible pores, and suffer from persistent breakouts all over your face.

Do You Have Dry Skin?

Those with dry skin rarely experience breakouts. They also have small, barely visible pores. And both of these are in the plus column.

On the other hand, those with dry skin are more prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as patches of dry, flaky skin.

Do You Have Normal/Combination Skin?

Having normal skin doesn't mean your skin is completely normal and perfect. In some cases, it means you might suffer the same problems as those with both dry and oily skin to.

For example, if you have normal/combination skin, you might suffer from oiliness, breakouts, and enlarged pores in your T-zone (on your forehead, nose, and chin). On the other hand, the skin in the areas, like your cheeks, can be very dry, rough and flaky.

Have you have been asking yourself, "How do I find out what my skin type is?" If so, you now know it is a question you can find the answer to if you know where to look and what to look for. And, once you've identified your skin type, you will have what you need to buy skincare products that are right for you.

But for the moment...
